Ongoing Fundraising Efforts for Desert Sport Horse Teammate Nicole Lemay
As some of you may know, our dear friend and Area X young rider Nicole Le May suffered a traumatic brain injury after a fall from a horse on Monday - February 17, 2014. (She was wearing a helmet).
Wonderful update on Nicole! After a weekend of not much progress, Nicole opened her eyes on 3/3/14! She was able to consistently respond with a thumbs up when asked, she was able to point to her nose when asked, she was able to point to her mother's nose when asked, she was able to recognize and take a few steps toward a picture of her horse Shamus, she was able to wheel herself in a wheelchair. While these may all seem like very basic things to you and me, this represents a great step forward for Nicole....it shows that the higher, "thinking" levels of her brain are working, that she is beginning to "wake up." While she still has many challenges ahead in her rehabilitation, this is truly an awesome development.....kick on, Nicole!! We will keep the positive vibes flowing your way!!
We wanted to update you all on the fundraising efforts....the gofundme campaign has succeeded beyond expectations, and we thank you all for your generous support!
